The Vincentown Triathlon in the charming titular town in New Jersey brought out some fasties this year. Side note: the fact that quaint little towns like Vincentown exist just 45 minute outside a major metropolitan area always floors me. They’re so…neat. Neat? Is that a word people still use?
Anway, I kinda like keeping most of my races under the radar. I don’t like the extra pressure of people knowing I’m racing, I put enough on myself (see my TriRock post). Again, not that I think people really care, it’s just how I roll. Seriously, most people could care less. And these little sprints are the perfect place get kind of lost.
Well, except when you have friends racing as well. I knew my one friend racing, but had no clue there would be four of us. The whole covert thing was kind of thrown out the window.
Here’s what I got on the actual racing:
There was car parked in the middle of transition area. Yes, a car. I think they had hoped that it would. It didn’t.
The swim was one of the more violent ones I’ve been part of it. Chill fellas. “Just drink some juice.” Anyone see Stranger Things? Anyone.
The bike was crazy flat and crazy fast. Even with a headwind. It’s essentially one big quadrilateral polygon…yay high school terminology that I never thought I would use again. It was the first time I really got to open up on the Zipp Disc. And wow. Wow. Wow.
Was there a race official out there? If so, I didn’t see one. That’s cool. All part of the “casual atmosphere” I guess.
Crap, that was a hot run. Seriously dude, so steamy. Pretty pleased with my splits. 6:31, 6:24, 6:21…but still was passed by at least four. But, but, but, a huge improvement is happening.
There was a huge ditch right before the finish line. Hmmm, maybe just move the run out 10 more feet…or move it to the right on the pavement. Or something. Anything.
The post race festivities at the firehouse were pretty cool. Lots of food options…even for vegetarians. Good crew of people. And T3 represented. Getting three 2nd places.
DQ Events have a lot of charm to them. For small races, they tend to bring in a lot a lot of fast folks which certainly makes for an exciting morning.
I gotta start taking more pictures at these things. Seriously, who wants to read this crap?
