How is it that I have to get up at 3am for a race that is literally a ten minute drive away? Well, that’s what I did and after not being able to fall asleep until 1, I was none too happy about. I guess I had to do my hair, and have a five course breakfast, and my nails...wait, what? I did none of that. I don't know what I did, but yeah, 3am.
This race stresses me out. So many people. So many people I know. So many people I know who I think who care about my time but really don’t. You know what I mean, like if I have a bad day, I feel like everyone will all be like, “Whoah, he sucks.” But in actuality, most people could really care less. Whatever, it’s all in my head. Also, I really don’t care for that bike course. The road is tore up. And the little hills don’t really suit my strengths…which is to go straight and fast. Which this course, isn’t. At all. A couple of straightaways, but mostly turns and little annoying hills.
But, but, but I love all of the camaraderie there. I love seeing all the other T3 folk (and a couple of Timex peeps as well). I love being on a run route that I’m so familiar with. I love that there’s music every mile. I love the after party…it’s just that bike course. Ick.
Anyway, it went really well. In spite of a shaky bike, I had a great run. I negative split each mile, which is pretty awesome. And it was the first Olympic where I didn’t have to take walk breaks. Not one. Not ONE! I also caught the guy who would have been third with about 200 yards left (he’s also part of Timex…sorry teamie). And even though the run was about a half mile too long, I still PR’ed by about 5 minutes. WHAT? I am super proud of podiuming at such a big race. Super proud. Like I’m glowing as I write this. (dork).
Oh, in the pictures, I’m the jackass drinking the beer. Ha.
Side note, I raced in my new T3 gear by Champion System. The performance blade tri top proved to be very problematic, cutting into my armpits pretty bad. And the customer service was kinda crappy too.
