| Wouldn’t it be awesome to run with this much joy all of the time? Just pure 100% joy. You’re not cursing your joints. You’re not counting down the miles. You’re just running with a big smile on your face, enjoying every second of it. Bouncing like Tigger. And laughing. I don’t know any time I’ve actually been laughing while running. But this kid did it during his first ever fun run. It was probably a quarter of a mile or so long…or in his case, it was a quarter of a mile short. He could have gone for 50. Easy. It was part of the really well run, extremely organized 37th Annual PNC Bank Thanksgiving Day Run for MS in downtown Wilmington, DE. He ran the whole way even when Santa Claus almost distracted him. After Finn skipped across the finish line, he waited oh so patiently for his medal…that he wore all day. My wife cried. Awesome awesome awesome family memory. Besides that pretty cool dad moment, I also had a really great runner moment at my first turkey trot like ever. A new 5k PR on a pretty hilly course. 19:05.02, good enough for 2nd in my age group. Two years ago, I finally made it across the 20 minutes mark. Now, I can see something in the 18’s in my future. Not bad for a hack runner who has never had a day of training. Like I said, this race is pretty awesome. After 37 years they certainly have it down. It’s super organized. Pretty course that winds through the city and parks. And a huge spread of food at the end to help you kickstart your Thanksgiving feast. As cliché as it sounds, it’s fun for the whole family. |
